Foliada at Chiringuito Los Pinares - Cabañas

Last night we had a dinner (kind of a mixture of live galician music at a beachcafé and a north-spanish-loud-and-wild-party)- foliada in the Los Pinares's Chiringuito. We truly love this place, where you can enjoy the world´s best tortilla (so they claim) AND specialists in cooking a very peculiar paella, in a unique setting at the beach, so close to the water yoy can nearly feel the ocean water below your feet. In addition, there is always a great atmosphere and the staff is always easy-going which makes you feel very relaxed and as you were having some drinks with friends at home.

Now I think I should explain what "foliada" actually means, right? Well, this is a typical Galician party. A gathering of people for the purpose of singing and dancing to traditional live music played by instruments from Galicia: bagpipes, tambourines, drums ... enjoyable noise! Kinda reminds me of a traditional Irish party. Lot´s of drinking, wild dancing and everybody is somehow part of a very intense energy.

The menu consisted of their specialty, "Paella Cabañesa": exquisite rice with cockles. Really good! I think you only have to look at the picture to imagine the taste.

After dinner, my friend Vero which is all a true artist, set up a little act/show with the owner of the restaurant after rehearsing it during days . It was a super fun time.!!!  I couldn't stop laughing. Both are real comedians and people with whom you couldn't never get bored. (We're really lucky to be around people like that)

The party had already started with music on the beach before dinner and continued with more music, more dancing, more singing voices, more fun and of course more shots of coffee liqueur ... not for me, of course.

I danced so much that today I'm beaten! I begin to feel more and more the little baby's  weight I carry within me ... but this isn't a reason to stop dancing, laughing and enjoying every second of my life, of our lives, on the contrary....I couldn't be more happy!

Feirón Medieval dos Andrade

This weekend was held a medieval fair in Pontedeume, called "Feirón Medieval dos Andrade". So Saturday night we went for a walk and dinner with some friends. The atmosphere was very good, all of the old part of the town was decorated like a medieval village. There were craft stalls, food, theater ... very cool. But undoubtedly the highlight of the evening was to find the terrace that on the occasion of the fair the owners of "A Cantina do Atallo" had organized. (I already talked about this place here). In a small terrace lit with candles and filled with small wooden tables and straw seats they created a magical corner where you can eat and drink while the owner, Maria, delighted everyone with a beautiful live vocal concert accompanied only with a guitar by her partner and father of the baby that they are waiting right now. It was incredibly exciting and I'm sure it did not leave anybody indifferent with the sweetness of her voice and stage magic. It was a perfect summer night.

San Juan`s night

Last Saturday we celebrated the magic night of San Juan. This is the night of the summer-solstice, celebrated in Galicia since centuries and it's linked to fertility rituals and purification. Galicia is burning that night from north to south and from east to west. There are bonfires in every home, every neighborhood and especially on every beach. Said to be a magical night: the time to scare off evil spirits. The bonfires are lit after midnight and good luck is attributed to jumping over it nine times.

This year Vic and I celebrated it with some friends on the beach of Cabanas, near Pontedeume. And this year the spanish football team played a match that same night before having barbecue spare-ribs and (most important according to the tradition) grilled sardines!  The atmosphere was incredible. And Spain won the match so double celebration.

The typical food of the night of San Juan are the grilled sardines. Of course we ate sardines (which were really good) and barbecue. Wine, beer (all alcohol-free for me) and shots of good-old (and very popular) galician "coffee liquor".

Around midnight all the bonfires on the beach are lit and the atmosphere became magical. We were laughing, dancing, enjoying the night in company of our friends. It was a great night that we will always remember like our last San Juan just the two of us... we'll be 3...next year!
